Are you one of those people who seem to ooze confidence, all the time? Are there particular things that increase your confidence– perhaps when someone says ‘Well Done’ or perhaps ‘How clever!’? Equally when has your confidence let you down? Perhaps it has to do with how you feel – when you wake up refreshed – do you feel more confident to handle the new day? When you wake up after a bad nights sleep – does that reduce your confidence?

I invite you to think about the times when your confidence has been low – perhaps due to illness, an argument or a breakdown of a relationship. What opportunities have you missed out on and what was the long term cost of the situation that you didn’t handle very well?

Confidence comes from the latin word ‘fidere’ which means “to trust”. Therefore, as defined by Wikipedia, having self-confidence is having trust in one’s self. With trust also comes a belief – in your own ability, skills and experience.

5 simple ways to increase your confidence include :

  • Start the day by saying ‘I believe in my abilities’
  • Celebrate success when you do a good job
  • Accept mistakes and learn from them
  • Take regular exercise
  • End every day by confirming 3 achievements made during the day
